Yesterday, we went to San Pedro Sula, the murder capital of the world. We had an appointment at the U.S. Consulate to report Evan's birth for his U.S. Passport and citizenship. Before Evan was born, I wouldn't have had a second thought about going. Now that Evan is in our lives, fear tried to creep in. I had to reassure myself that God was with us and would protect us. The consulate is located downtown in front of the Catholic Cathedral, central park, and the municipal building. As we drove around trying to find a parking space we noticed many people congregating in front of the municipal building. Ruben decided ti ask someone about parking. The man responded, "Right now, not here, your vehicle could could get messed up because there is a protest going on." We rolled up about five more feet to see police and military men all around us. In front of us, hundreds of taxi drivers were getting out of their cars and protesting. We were trapped. We had two options: 1.) Stay in the car and wait it out or 2.) Leave the car and flee on foot to a safer area. Neither of the options were something I wanted to do with Evan. While watching an angry mob yelling in front of me my mind was filled with worse case scenarios. In that moment the Lord spoke to me, "PEACE" I am with you." Ruben decided to calmly persuade some of the taxi drivers, that were standing by their cars, to move just a little bit so we could get out of there and they could go back to their protest. A good 20 minutes later they finally decided to move their vehicles so we could leave. I breathed a sigh of relief and a thank you Jesus. We quickly found a "safe" parking space and made it to the interview on time. This situation reminded me how important it is to daily put on the armor of God (Ephesians 6:11) and cover yourself with prayer.
